Ghana head coach Otto Addo did not hold back in his assessment of the Black Stars’ 2-0 defeat to Japan in Friday’s Kirin Cup friendly, openly acknowledging that the hosts were the better side throughout the encounter.

The Samurai Blue dominated large moments of the game with their high-pressing, fast-paced attacking play, and Addo admitted his team struggled to match their intensity.

“Overall, we lost to Japan in terms of the number of shots they took,” Addo said.

“Japan also started the second half very well. They controlled the game better and created the clearer chances. We have to admit that they deserved the win.”

Japan capitalised on Ghana’s early mistakes, with Takumi Minamino and Ritsu Doan scoring in each half.

Addo stressed that while his team tried to stay compact and organised, Japan’s sharpness in transition and quick decision-making made the difference.

“This is the level of intensity we must be prepared for. Japan were very efficient, very aggressive, and they punished our mistakes,” he added.

The defeat serves as a timely reminder for the technical team as Ghana continue preparations for upcoming commitments, including their World Cup build-up.

The Black Stars will take on Korea Republic on Tuesday in their final game for the November window.
