GPL: Fritz Markus Schmid praises fighting spirit of Gold Stars players after Kotoko stalemate
· GhanaSoccernetThe head coach of Bibiani Gold Stars, Fritz Markus Schmid, was full of praise for his players on Saturday after their goalless stalemate with Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.
The defending champions hosted the Porcupine Warriors at Duns Park in their Week 19 fixture of the 2025/26 league campaign.
In the game mostly dominated by Asante Kotoko, the Gold Stars team laboured to secure a point at the end of a goalless draw.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Fritz Markus Schmid applauded the performance of his players, acknowledging that his side played against a very strong team.
“I have to give my players a lot of credit for their performance because we played a very strong side who had a solid possession game, they put us under a lot of pressure, especially in the second half, and we kept up, and we held against them. I praise the team for fighting against a clever and more experienced side,” the Swiss tactician said.
Despite dropping two valuable points this weekend, Gold Stars remain second in the Ghana Premier League standings with 33 points.
With seven points behind leaders Medeama Sporting Club, the team must aim for all three points from their league match against Berekum Chelsea in their next outing to stay in the title race.
