2024 WAFCON: 'Black Queens showed against Tanzania we can stay true to our style and win' - Kim Lars Bjorkegren
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has praised his players for sticking to their identity and executing the game plan in their 4-1 win over Tanzania at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The emphatic victory on Tuesday secured Ghana a place in the quarter-finals after they finished second in Group C with four points.
The Queens will now face Algeria on Saturday, July 19, for a place in the semifinals.
“I am just really proud of the girls. Today, we followed the game plan a little bit more. They showed that they can stay true to our style and win,” Bjorkegren said after the match in Morocco.
The Black Queens had opened their WAFCON campaign with a 2-0 defeat to defending champions South Africa, before recovering to draw 1-1 with Mali in their second group game.
Knowing that anything less than victory would send them home early, Ghana stepped up with a dominant performance against Tanzania, scoring four goals and sealing a deserved spot in the knockout phase.
