Sports Minister Kofi Adams: Budget review saved $700,000
· GhanaSoccernetGhana's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that a comprehensive review of the Black Stars' operational budget has saved the nation close to $700,000 ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The minister made the revelation during a high-level meeting at the Sports Ministry, attended by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The meeting also included Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, senior officials from the National Sports Authority, and the Chief Director of the Sports Ministry.
"We've worked together with the FA to make sure that we rationalise our budgeting and release processes, and this in a way has saved close to about $700,000 in two games involving the Black Stars," Adams stated.
He emphasised that the cost-saving measures were implemented without negatively impacting the team's preparations or support structure, adding, "All these have gone a long way to build confidence, and the players did not suffer, and the technical team did not suffer. They continued... to receive what is due them even in these savings."
The budget rationalisation is part of a broader effort to ensure fiscal discipline and efficient resource allocation as Ghana prepares for its fourth appearance at the FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars have been drawn in a group with Portugal, South Korea, and Canada for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The successful savings initiative reflects a collaborative approach between the Sports Ministry and the GFA, aiming to streamline operations while maintaining the quality of support for the national team.
As Ghana's World Cup campaign approaches, this financial prudence is expected to contribute to a more sustainable and focused preparation for the global tournament.
