Prince Owusu vows Kotoko revival after FA Cup disappointment ahead of Hearts showdown
· GhanaSoccernetAsante Kotoko interim coach Prince Owusu has assured supporters that the club will respond positively to their recent struggles, pledging improved performances ahead of Sunday’s Ghana Premier League Super Clash against Accra Hearts of Oak.
The caretaker trainer stepped into the role following the club’s painful MTN FA Cup exit and has moved quickly to rebuild confidence among fans and players.
Kotoko’s title defence came to a disappointing end after Aduana FC eliminated the Porcupine Warriors on penalties at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The defeat triggered the resignation of head coach Abdul Karim Zito, leaving Owusu to steady the team during a crucial period of the season.
Addressing the supporters, the interim coach admitted the team fell short of expectations and offered an apology.
“I think we are here for them [the fans]. We are here to play for and entertain them. What they were looking for, we were not able to give to them, so when they react, they have the right to do that.
“I’m glad nothing worse came out of it. But we just apologize. That will not happen again.”
Kotoko enter the derby ranked fifth with 35 points from 21 matches, trailing fourth-placed Hearts by a single point, while Medeama lead the standings with 43 points.
The Kumasi giants have managed just one win in their last five league outings, making Sunday’s encounter a vital opportunity to revive their campaign and restore faith among their supporters.
