He's really involved in more actions – LA Galaxy coach explains Joseph Paintsil's new central role
· GhanaSoccernetLA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney has praised Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil for his increased involvement in matches since being deployed in a more central position.
Speaking after the Galaxy's draw with Vancouver Whitecaps, Vanney noted that the positional shift has made a noticeable difference in the attacker's influence on the game.
"And I feel like now that he's been in the middle the last few games, I feel he's really involved in more actions," Vanney said.
Paintsil, who joined the Galaxy in 2024 and helped them win the MLS Cup in his debut season, has returned strongly from an injury layoff, scoring twice in his last three appearances.
His pace and direct running have always been threats, but Vanney believes the central role has unlocked even more of his potential.
The coach also highlighted the difficulty Paintsil poses to opposing centre-backs. "When they have a small, quick guy who is as shifty and as fast as he is, it's a nightmare for those guys," he added.
With the Galaxy pushing for another strong campaign, Paintsil remains their "No. 1 guy" for running in behind defences and causing problems.
