AFCON 2025: South Africa boss Hugo broos reveals strategy to stop Egypt

South Africa's head coach Hugo Broos is taking a team-orientated approach against Egypt, emphasising that they'll focus on beating the entire Egyptian squad rather than targeting Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

This strategy comes as South Africa looks to top Group B, having won their opening match against Angola 2-1, thanks to Lyle Foster's stunning goal.

Broos believes focusing on Salah alone would be a mistake, given Egypt's overall strength. “They are such a good team. Why should we focus on one player?

"We have to be prepared to beat the team rather than [seeing to it that] Salah doesn’t play good or [Omar] Marmoush doesn’t play well. “No; for us, it’s the team that’s important, and we don’t really focus on one player,” he said. This approach reflects South Africa's growing confidence, especially after their impressive win over Angola.

Egypt, on the other hand, are coming off a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe, with Salah scoring the winning goal. The match between these two African powerhouses promises to be intense, with both teams vying for the top spot in Group B.
