Japan coach Moriyasu delighted after win over Ghana, Says match offered good preparation for World Cup
· GhanaSoccernetJapan head coach Hajime Moriyasu expressed satisfaction after his side sealed a composed 2-0 victory over Ghana in the Kirin Challenge Cup on Friday, describing the performance as an important step in their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Both nations have already secured qualification for next summer’s expanded global showpiece, but it was the Samurai Blue who looked sharper and more fluid at Toyota Stadium.
Takumi Minamino broke the deadlock after 16 minutes, finishing off a flowing Japanese move that exposed Ghana’s attempt to sit deep and defend in numbers.
Ritsu Doan doubled the advantage on the hour mark, capping a dominant display from the hosts.
Speaking in his post-match flash interview, Moriyasu praised his team’s patience and maturity in breaking down a Ghana side armed with strong individual talent but organised in a compact defensive block.
“Ghana retreated and strengthened their defence, but this was good preparation for the World Cup,” he said.
“It showed us how to break down an opponent with powerful players who defend in an organised manner.”
After conceding multiple goals in back-to-back matches in October, Japan’s clean sheet was another welcome takeaway.
“The players were determined to keep the score at zero,” Moriyasu added. “They showed that good offence comes from good defence.”
Ghana, meanwhile, will return home with valuable lessons as Otto Addo continues shaping his squad for next year’s World Cup.
