Winfried Schäfer’s appointment as Black Stars technical advisor backed by Mallam Yahaya
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Ghana international, Mallam Yahaya has backed the appointment of Winfried Schäfer as the new Technical Advisor of the Black Stars.
As part of the restructuring of the technical team after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the 75-year-old has joined the Black Stars’ technical team.
Speaking to Connect FM, Mallam Yahaya praised the appointment and described Schäfer as one of the best in the game.
“The changes are good, especially the technical director role. Schäfer is a good choice.
“He is one of the greatest German coaches, but the only problem is his age. The job requires modern techniques and a blend of youthfulness," he added.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) also announced Kris Peguy as the new team psychologist, Gregory De Grauwe as the chief video analyst, and Desmond Ofei as a replacement for Joseph Laumann.
Additionally, Issah Amadou of Asante Kotoko and Abdul Rahman Alhassan have been named equipment officers.
Despite failing to qualify fro the AFCON, the Black Stars will regroup later in March for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
