Tunisia secures World Cup berth with stoppage-time victory over Equatorial Guinea

Tunisia has officially booked its place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dramatic late winner from Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane secured a 1–0 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Monday evening.

The match seemed destined for a draw until deep into stoppage time, when Ben Romdhane calmly slotted home an assist from Firas Chaouat, sparking wild celebrations among the Tunisian squad and fans.

With this crucial win, Tunisia becomes the second African team—after Morocco—to qualify for the World Cup, doing so with two group games still remaining.

The Carthage Eagles have dominated Group H, amassing 22 points from eight matches while maintaining a perfect defensive record: they are yet to concede a single goal in the entire qualifying campaign.

This will be Tunisia’s seventh appearance at the World Cup and their third consecutive, having also participated in the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.

They will be hoping to advance beyond the group stage for the first time in their history when they compete in North America in 2026.
