Ghana winger Kamaldeen Sulemana suffers injury setback in Atalanta’s big win over Genoa

Ghana international Kamaldeen Sulemana picked up an injury while in action for Atalanta in the Coppa Italia Round 16 clash against Genoa on Wednesday night.

Sulemana, who joined the Italian outfit in the summer was forced off with an injury as his outfit cruised to an emphatic 4-0 victory over Genoa, ensuring their qualification to the quarterfinals of the Cup competition this season.

The former Southampton star was replaced in the 21st-minute mark in the much-anticipated clash, held at the New Balance Arena. Sulemana reportedly sustained a muscle strain in his right adductor and is expected to undergo scans on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury.

Despite the setback, the former Europa League champions managed to secure an emphatic victory over their opponent.

Atalanta opened the scoring in the 19th-minute mark through Berat Djimsiti, as the host went to the halftime break with the advantage.

The home team showcased determination and resilience in the match, scoring additional three goals in the second half to confirm their place in the quarterfinals.

Netherlands international, Marten de Roon scored to double the advantage for Atalanta in the 54th-minute. The home team continued their dominance in the match, with Mario Pasalic and Honest Ahanor finding the back of the net in the dying embers of the game to cement victory.

Since joining Atalanta in the summer, the 23-year-old Ghana international has made 15 appearances across competitions for the club, scoring two goals and delivering an assist across the period.
