German Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg are confident that new signing Jonas Adjetey has the needed quality to improve their defense.

The Bundesliga outfit announced the acquisition of the Ghana defender on Monday, February 2, in a move to strengthen their backline for the rest of the 2025/26 football season and beyond.

“Further reinforcement for the Wolves' defense: Center-back Jonas Adjetey has made a permanent move from FC Basel to the Green-Whites. The 22-year-old Ghanaian international has signed a contract until June 30, 2030,” the club said in a notice on their website.

Speaking on the signing of Adjetey, Wolfsburg sporting director Pirmin Schwegler stressed that the club has faith in the Ghanaian to transform the team’s defense.

“Jonas is a very strong physical player, fast and good in tackles. He brings exactly the qualities we need for our defense.

“At FC Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally over the past three and a half years. We have high hopes for Jonas and are convinced that he will strengthen our team immediately,” he said.

In his first words, the Black Stars centre-back expressed his readiness to hit the ground running, adding that it means a lot to him to join the Bundesliga outfit.

"It means a lot to me to be in the Bundesliga now and to take this step with VfL Wolfsburg. I'm looking forward to getting started right away and will invest everything every day so that we can achieve the results we need together,” Jonas Adjetey said.
