AFCON 2025: Sadio Mane saves Senegal against  DR Congo with vital goal in thrilling draw

2021 champions Senegal were held to a tense 1–1 draw by DR Congo in their Africa Cup of Nations Group D clash in Tanger on Saturday, with captain Sadio Mané netting a crucial late equaliser.

Mane, making his mark at the tournament, rescued a vital point for the Lions of Teranga with his 51st international goal. The strike cancelled out a second-half lead from DR Congo's Cédric Bakambu, ensuring Senegal maintained their position at the top of the group.

The match began with Senegal dominating possession and creating several promising chances. However, wasted opportunities from Ismaïla Sarr and Nicolas Jackson kept the score level, allowing DR Congo to grow into the game.

The Leopards seized their moment after halftime. Capitalising on a rare defensive error, Bakambu finished clinically to stun the Teranga Lions and take a 1–0 lead.

Facing a potential upset, Senegal relied on their experience and resilience. The pressure paid off when Mane, demonstrating his trademark composure, found the net to secure the draw for his side.
