Black Stars Team Manager Ameenu Shardow has shared his views on the planned testimonial match in honour of Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan.

According to Shardow, the testimonial match is a step in the right direction and will motivate current and next generation of national team players to give their all to the country when called upon.

“It’s extremely important because, aside the fact that we are using it to honour a distinguished personality, somebody who has given everything for this nation, this also serves as a sign of a nation that appreciates its heroes,” Ameenu Shardow told Joy Sports in an interview.

He continued, “It encourages other players to also give their best because they know, at the end of the day, they will be well appreciated.

“So, for me, this is long overdue. I’m very happy that finally, the GFA is taking the lead in getting these things done and not leaving them in the hands of private individuals.”

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Tuesday, November 4, announced plans to organise the testimonial match to celebrate Asamoah Gyan.

The date for the match to celebrate Gyan’s remarkable contribution to Ghana football will be communicated in due course.

Gyan retired from the Black Stars in 2023, having scored a record 51 goals in 109 appearances.
