Kotoko reassures Zito of his future despite poor form

In the face of mounting pressure from supporters, Asante Kotoko's management has publicly backed head coach Abdul Karim Zito, indicating they will not make a rash decision regarding his future despite a recent slump in form.

Communications Director Sarfo Duku addressed the growing fan unrest following a defeat to Swedru All Stars and a disappointing goalless draw at home to Berekum Chelsea, results that have left the Porcupine Warriors six points off the top of the Ghana Premier League. Duku emphasized the club's new approach to dealing with such crises.

"When the expectation of our supporters is not being met, obviously, the focus will be on sacking the coach... but I can assure you that we will not rush into taking any such decision," Duku stated in an interview with Luv FM. "We believe that over the years, that has been the trend. And the question is, has that been helpful to the club? No, so we will not rush into doing that."

Duku revealed that instead of an immediate dismissal, the club is conducting a thorough internal assessment. "We are engaging all the parties involved, including the players, the other technical team members, and the medical team, to find out what the problems actually are before we can come to any conclusion," he explained. He argued that a pattern of frequent coaching changes had historically set the club back.

The club official appealed directly to the fans for patience and consistency, noting that Zito's technical team has been in place for less than a year. "I will plead with them to exercise patience. We need some consistency for once," Duku said. He assured that a decision would be made in the club's best interest once the full assessment is complete, but for now, the cycle of abrupt dismissals is being challenged.

With Zito's position secured for the immediate future, attention turns to the pitch, where Kotoko will aim to bounce back in their next fixture away to Bibiani GoldStars on Saturday.
