Players are in support with decision to boycott Ghana Premier League - Hohoe United administrative manager

Hohoe United’s decision to boycott the remainder of the Ghana Premier League has received backing from the club’s players, according to Administrative Manager Yussif Uthman.

The Hohoe-based side announced its withdrawal from the league, citing systemic unfairness, and failed to honour their Matchday 28 clash against Eleven Wonders at the Swedru Stadium last Friday.

Speaking to Sporty FM, Uthman said the majority of players support the club’s stance.

“The players are in support of the club's decision because of the bias of the system they have been subjected to week in and out,” he said.

Uthman further stressed the toll such perceived unfairness takes on the players, noting it undermines their preparation and readiness for matches.

“Yes, they like to play football, but what’s the point in playing football in a system that simply can not be fair? You prep all week, you invest your resources, you go for games, only for a few people to come and decide the outcome of the game. It breaks the hearts or spines of players who work hard all week long to prepare for games, give their all, only for one or two decisions to impact the results of the game,” he added.

At the time of their withdrawal, Hohoe United sat in the relegation zone with 30 points from 27 matches, with seven games left in the season.

As the club’s future in the league hangs in the balance, attention now turns to the Ghana Football Association for a response to Hohoe United’s controversial decision.
