Kotoko's Sarfo Duku pleads on behalf of Coach Zito for patience

Amid growing unrest among supporters, Asante Kotoko's Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has made a public plea for patience and calm, stating the club will not make a snap decision on the future of head coach Abdul Karim Zito.

The Porcupine Warriors have failed to win a match since the start of the year, enduring a defeat to Swedru All Blacks and a disappointing goalless draw at home to Berekum Chelsea. This poor run of form has seen them slip to fourth in the Ghana Premier League table, now six points off the top.

Duku directly addressed the calls from fans for a change in leadership, revealing a more measured and thorough approach from the club's management. "When the expectation of our supporters is not being met, obviously, the focus will be on sacking the coach... but I can assure you that we will not rush into taking any such decision," Duku stated.

He explained that the club is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the situation, engaging with all parties, including the players, technical staff, and medical team, to understand the underlying issues. The goal is to break from a historical pattern of frequent, reactive coaching changes that have often led the club back to "square one".

The communications director appealed for understanding from the fanbase. "I will plead with them to exercise patience. We need some consistency for once. The technical team we brought have not spent up to one year. I don't think that in football, you don't have to give them enough time to achieve results," Duku said. He assured that a final decision would be made in the club's best interest but stressed the need to move away from the "usual sacking of coaches here and there".

With Zito's immediate position secured for now, the focus returns to the pitch. The club faces a crucial test of this renewed patience when they travel to face Bibiani GoldStars on Saturday, aiming to turn their stuttering form around.
