Basake Holy Stars coach Johnson Smith unsatisfied with players' attitude in Eleven Wonders defeat

Basake Holy Stars coach Johnson Smith has openly expressed his deep dissatisfaction with his team's attitude following a shocking 2–0 loss to bottom-placed Techiman Eleven Wonders.

The defeat, which opened the second round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, left the 14th-placed Holy Stars reeling and their coach searching for answers.

Smith arrived noticeably late to his post-match press conference, immediately attributing his delay to the frustration he felt with his squad. "It’s the same thing I’m asking them – that’s why I delayed," Smith stated.

He directly linked the poor result to the players' mindset before the match, explaining, "Their attitude before the match, after training, everything was obvious. I had to psych them up because if you don’t let players know what they are doing wrong, you will go astray. That is our problem."

The coach did not temper his emotions when describing the disappointing performance. "I was furious. What type of game was that? No, no, no," he said. "I don’t usually shout like this, but I was shouting because there was a problem within them. Either they wanted to give out or do something different."

Despite his evident anger, Smith acknowledged the need for a measured approach to address the issues. "I have to calm down," he admitted. "I like talking to the boys and psyching them. If I go furious on them, everything will go astray."

The focus for Holy Stars now shifts to an immediate response, with the team set to face Bechem United next. Coach Smith faces the task of correcting the identified attitude problems to prevent the team's campaign from spiralling further off course.
