Bechem United winger Aminu Mohammed blames 'bad luck' for troubled Man City spell

Former Ghana U17 star, Aminu Mohammed has attributed his challenging spell at English giants Manchester City to bad luck.

The 24-year-old joined Man City in a record-breaking deal from Ghanaian side West Africa Football Academy in 2018, but failed to make an appearance and was later released in 2022.

After close to three years with competitive football, Mohammed - once a huge prospect - returned to Ghana to join Bechem United.

"It was very tough. Manchester City is a big club," he told 3 Sports. "I move there very young, when I did not know much. I learned a lot but I also had some bad luck," he added.

Mohammed trained with the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva and was tipped for the big stage.

However, after struggling to convince the club, he was shipped on loan to NAC Breda, FC Dordretcht and SK Lommel before he ended his stay with the English club in 2022.

"There is a big difference in the pitches, the weather and the trainings," he said. "Adapting there wasn't easy. I was always training with the first team and injuries also became a nightmare," he added.

Mohammed, who is on a quest to revive his career, could make his debut for Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League against champions Bibiani GoldStars on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
