Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams insists the Black Stars is more than prepared for the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament, to be staged in North America.

The West African football heavyweights are set for their fifth World Cup appearance after finishing on top of Group I.

The 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana earning one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.

Speaking at an event organized by Chinese Car Maker GWM (Great Wall Motors), Kofi Adams affirms the Black Stars is more than prepared for the global showpiece, while expressing confidence about the team chances at the tournament next year.

“We went there [to previous World Cups] to learn so we have learnt something and we are more than prepared for next year’s Mundial and we will come back with something great” Kofi Adams said.

Ghana’s best performance at the World Cup was at the 2010 edition by making it to the quarterfinal stage but the Black Stars have failed to progress beyond the group stage since.

The Sports Minister’s statement comes in the wake of the Black Stars back-to-back defeats in the Kirin Challenge Cup during their Asian tour.

Ghana succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Japan last Thursday, followed a narrow defeat to South Korea on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced GHC150 million for the Black Stars World Cup campaign.
