Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed strong belief that the Black Stars are ready to compete at the highest level as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The four-time African champions will be making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Speaking in an interview with FIFA, Semenyo admitted the disappointment of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, but said the team has responded positively by securing a place at the World Cup.

He stressed that the squad is united and motivated to make an impact on the global stage.

"We were so frustrated that we didn't qualify. It was very, very tough. But I feel like we've rectified that in terms of qualifying for the World Cup," the 26-year-old said.

"But, we're not just coming to the World Cup; we want to compete on all levels. I feel like everyone in the team is ready to go.

"For us, we can compete with these teams. It's just [about] winning games, having fun and showing the nation what we can do," Semenyo added.

Ghana will open their Group L campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17, before facing England at the Boston Stadium on June 23. Their final group match will be against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.

The Black Stars, who suffered group-stage exits at the 2014 and 2022 World Cups in Brazil and Qatar respectively, will be aiming to progress beyond the first round this time around.
