I’m pleased Bournemouth vindicated GFA’s announcement about Antoine Semenyo injury – Asante Twum
· GhanaSoccernetGFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says he is relieved that AFC Bournemouth have publicly confirmed Antoine Semenyo’s injury, vindicating the association after days of speculation and criticism.
His reaction follows renewed debate over the forward’s withdrawal from the Black Stars squad during the international break.
Fans and pundits had questioned whether some injuries were genuine or simply a convenient reason for players to miss friendly fixtures.
Those doubts intensified when Semenyo appeared in photos proposing to his girlfriend just hours after Ghana’s defeat to South Korea, prompting further scrutiny of the GFA’s explanation.
Addressing the matter on Facebook, Asante Twum wrote: “I am pleased that the AFC Bournemouth coach has finally confirmed the news about Antoine. He arrived in Japan with an ankle injury, which is why we allowed him to return to his club after the match against Japan. Regrettably, he faced undue criticism. Here’s to a swift recovery for Antoine.”
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola later revealed that the forward was struggling with an ankle issue even before joining Ghana’s camp, casting doubt on his availability for the Premier League match against West Ham on November 22.
The Cherries face the Hammers at the Vitality Stadium with uncertainty surrounding one of their most influential players this season.
Semenyo featured in Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Japan but left camp before the match against South Korea, where Ghana fell 1-0.
