2026 World Cup: We will fight to rewrite our history, says GFA president Kurt Okraku
· GhanaSoccernetGhana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has expressed confidence that the Black Stars will fight to rewrite their history at the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
The senior national team will make their fifth appearance at the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.
The four-time African champions will come up against Panama, England and Croatia in Group L. The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
After back-to-back group phase elimination in 2014 and 2022 in Brazil and Qatar, respectively, Mr Okraku, speaking at the launch of the Fundraising Campaign at the Kempinski Hotel on Friday, March 20, assured that the team led by Otto Adoo will put up a good fight to rewrite their history.
“Today, we are very confident that the intangible assets that we have produced over time, the intangible assets that have been put together by coach [Otto] Addo and his team, we will make Ghana proud," he said.
“We will go into this tournament with our chest up, ready to fight for the strip and ready to change our story. We fear no foe and believe me, Ghana football will speak," Okraku added.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, and will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have regrouped for their upcoming friendly games against Austria and Germany as part of their preparations for the World Cup.
