George Afriyie hails Asante Kotoko’s stature amid CEO speculation
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie has highlighted the enduring prestige and institutional strength of Asante Kotoko SC following growing speculation linking him with the club’s Chief Executive Officer position.
Reports in recent days suggested that the seasoned football administrator was among leading figures being considered for a top executive role at the Kumasi-based giants ahead of the 2026/27 football season, sparking widespread debate within local football circles about the club’s future leadership direction.
“No doubt, Asante Kotoko is a big club with a rich history but at the moment, I am not in the race to become the new CEO of the club,” he stated, as quoted by Ghana Web.
His remarks come at a time when conversations around administrative restructuring and long-term stability continue to dominate discourse surrounding the Porcupine Warriors, with supporters eager to see experienced football management figures contribute to the club’s revival ambitions.
Afriyie further indicated that although informal conversations may exist within football circles, no official engagement has been initiated regarding the role.
“Perhaps there have been conversations around some quarters, but as it stands, no one has spoken to me to become the Chief Executive Officer of the club. I have friends there, but nothing has been discussed.”
Asante Kotoko are reportedly working on scrapping the interim management structure that has been in place for the past two seasons.
