Ghana coach Kassim Mingle described his Black Galaxies’ 1-0 defeat to South Africa as a case of hard luck, praising the young squad’s performance.

Bafana Bafana secured the narrow win in a tightly contested friendly at Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. The match served as a key preparatory fixture ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The only goal came in the second half from South Africa midfielder Sipho Mbule. Bafana Bafana dominated possession with 66% of the ball but struggled to create clear chances in the first half.

Ghana, however, created the most shots on target and even hit the post once, showing attacking intent despite failing to score.

"It's a new team that we're building, a young team. And with only three weeks to prepare them, they delivered this performance. Now, it was hard luck; we should have equalized the goal. It's just hard luck. So overall, I'm happy. I'm satisfied with their performance," Mingle said after the game.

South Africa repeatedly tested Ghana’s defence, creating scoring opportunities. The win provides the hosts a crucial boost as they finalise preparations for AFCON in Morocco.

Ghana’s Black Galaxies, composed of home-based players since the match fell outside the FIFA international window, used the fixture to prepare for upcoming CHAN qualifiers.
