Karela United midfielder Malik Abubakar blames pitch for Basake Holy Stars defeat
· GhanaSoccernetKarela United midfielder Malik Abubakar has expressed his frustration over the condition of the AAK II Sports Arena following his side’s defeat to Basake Holy Stars in Matchday 28 of the Ghana Premier League.
The visitors suffered a narrow 1-0 loss in a fiercely contested encounter on Sunday, as Basake Holy Stars extended their impressive home run to ten consecutive victories in the top flight.
Bismark Teye’s strike in the 61st minute proved to be the difference in an otherwise entertaining clash between the two sides.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the 21-year-old midfield enforcer insisted that the state of the pitch negatively impacted his team’s performance.
“We started the game well and dominated our opponents in the early stages. The condition of the pitch didn’t help our performance, but that’s football—we have to accept the defeat and move on.
I urge our fans to come out in their numbers for the next game, and we promise to bounce back with a victory for them,” he said.
After 28 matches into the season, Karela United sit sixth on the league table with 41 points, while Basake Holy Stars are just behind in seventh with 40 points.
