DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Just Delivered Near-Perfect Episode as Fans Call It “Beyond Epic”
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantMarvel fans have been waiting a long time for the kind of Daredevil episode that punches you in the face, leaves you stunned, and instantly earns a spot in the all-time rankings. Well, Daredevil: Born Againjust delivered exactly that.
Season 2 is firing on all cylinders, and Episode 4, “Gloves Off,” is the moment everything clicks into place. This isn’t just an awesome episode of the series, it’s the kind of chapter fans will be talking about for a long time.
“Gloves Off” has landed a massive 9.6 rating on IMDb, putting it shoulder-to-shoulder with one of the most beloved episodes in the franchise’s history, the Daredevil Season 3 finale, “A New Napkin.”
That finale brought together Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, and Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye in a brutal three-way collision that ended with shattered bodies and unfinished business.
Now, eight years later, Daredevil: Born Again finally picked that thread back up. What makes “Gloves Off” hit so hard is how closely it mirrors the DNA of Season 3 while still pushing things forward.
The dynamics are familiar but twisted just enough to feel fresh. Bullseye’s rage is now aimed at Vanessa instead of a federal agent. Fisk isn’t lurking in the shadows anymore, he’s operating from the Mayor’s Office. And Matt is once again trying to save Dex from himself while also trying to stop Fisk’s growing power.
Underneath those changes, though, it’s the same emotional engine. It feels like a continuation of the story fans never got to see play out.
Director Solvan “Slick” Naim brings a sharper visual style to the chaos, and the bigger Marvel Studios budget is put to full use. The episode kicks off with a Bullseye sequence in a diner that awesomely sets the crazy tone, and that was just the warm-up!
There’s apartment fight between Daredevil and Bullseye that is tight, brutal, and grounded. Then things escalate fast. Fisk’s charity boxing match turns into something far insanely savage, which leads directly into a full-blown rematch involving Fisk, Daredevil, and Bullseye.
And just when it feels like the episode might ease up, it goes even harder.
The final sequence at Fogwell’s Gym is easily one of the most striking moments this series has ever delivered. Fisk looks unstoppable in the ring, Matt is scrambling to prevent a massacre, and Bullseye is as lethal as ever.
It all builds to a devastating slow-motion moment where Fisk uses his belt to smash a projectile mid-air, only for the resulting shrapnel to still strike Vanessa.
Watching Ayelet Zurer’s Vanessa get brutally injured is enough on its own. But what really lands is Fisk’s reaction. That final surge of rage is terrifying, and it sets the stage for what could be an all-out war in the episodes ahead.
If you thought this was amazing, wait until you see the finale! Fans should brace themselves because if “Gloves Off” proves anything, it’s that Daredevil is back at full strength… and it isn’t pulling any punches.
