EPL: Sherwood names team that won’t win title
by John Owen Nwachukwu · Daily PostFormer Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has said that Aston Villa do not have what it takes to win the Premier League.
He made the comment after Manchester City, Arsenal, and Aston Villa all secured victories in the league this weekend.
Arsenal are two points above second-placed Manchester City, who defeated Crystal Palace 3-0, with Erling Haaland scoring twice and Phil Foden continuing his fine form. Third-placed Aston Villa beat West Ham 3-2 to secure their ninth consecutive victory.
Sherwood still believes Arsenal will win the league despite their struggle to overcome Wolves, but doubts that Aston Villa have the ‘strength in depth’ to challenge for the title.
“Winning ugly is sometimes important and that was very ugly from Arsenal,” Sherwood said on Premier League Productions. “The title race hasn’t even started yet and they’re doing that in December. What are they going to be like when it actually counts? I didn’t like what I saw. I was a little bit worried for them there.”
Asked if his former club, Aston Villa, could lift the title this season, he added, “They might not have the strength in depth. The only team who won’t get edgy is the team who’s been there and done it many, many times and that’s the team chasing Arsenal at the minute, Man City.”
