More Super Eagles players are expected to retire from international football after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

On Thursday, captain William Troost-Ekong shocked fans when he announced that he will no longer play for Nigeria.

Troost-Ekong took the decision after being included in Eric Chelle’s provisional squad for the tournament.

However, according to Shooting Stars Sporting Director, Adepoju Tobi Samuel, others will take the cue after the AFCON.

He also called for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen to be named the new captain of the national team.

Samuel wrote on X: “After the AFCON in Morocco, a few members of the team will retire.

“We must start afresh after the AFCON & build a winning squad for the 2027 AFCON.

“The decision to start afresh and a rebuilding process should start with Victor Osimhen being named as captain in Morocco.”
