2026 World Cup: Croatia were robbed against Portugal – Ibrahimovic

by · Daily Post

Former Sweden striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has claimed Croatia were “robbed” in their last-32 clash with Portugal at the 2026 World Cup.

Portugal won the game 2-1, but there was controversy at full time over a disallowed goal.

Goncalo Ramos had headed in the second goal for his country before Josko Gvardiol bundled home what appeared to level the game at 2-2.

But the video assistant referee, VAR, eventually ruled out the goal, with FIFA claiming Connected Ball Technology confirmed that there was a faint touch from Igor Matanovic.

Speaking to Gazzetta, Ibrahimovic said: “It was a fantastic match ruined in the end by VAR.

“I saw nothing irregular about the 2-2 goal; VAR disallowed it, but for me, it was a robbery.

“Either the sensor in the ball wasn’t working or something went wrong, because Renato Veiga touched the ball, which means there was no offside.

“Look at the angle: Croatia’s number 20 doesn’t touch the ball, nor does he change its trajectory in the slightest. It’s Portugal’s number 13 [Veiga] who touches it!”
