World Cup 2026: Two African countries qualify for knockout stage

South Africa became the second African country to qualify for the Round of 32 stage.

This follows their 1-0 win against South Korea in the early hours of today.

A second-half goal from Thapelo Maseko ensured South Africa finished in second position in Group A with four points and progressed to the knockout stage.

The Bafana Bafana is behind Mexico, who top the group with 9 points after beating Czechia 3-0.

South Africa now joins Morocco as the second African team to progress to the last-32 of the World Cup.

Recall that Morocco had earlier defeated Haiti 4-2 to qualify for the knockout stage.

The North Africans finished in second position with seven points in Group C behind leaders Brazil.
