AFCON: Ex-Leeds United defender, Dylan Kerr gives reasons Nigeria won’t win title
by Don Silas · Daily PostFormer Leeds United defender, Dylan Kerr has given reasons the Super Eagles of Nigeria won’t win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, title in Morocco.
Kerr cited Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament as one of the reasons.
He further insisted that Eric Chelle’s team will face some pressure due to their perfect record in the group stage.
Kerr expressed skepticism about Nigeria’s chances of making it to the AFCON final, noting that typically, it’s the teams that face challenges during the group stage that find themselves in the final match of the tournament.
Asked if Nigeria are favourites to win the AFCON after winning all their matches in the group stage, Kerr told Flashscore, “Not really, the good run in the group stage puts them under pressure because they have won all of them.
“Usually, the teams that struggle end up making the semi-finals and final.
“Nigeria didn’t qualify outright for the World Cup, so something must not be good on the side of their game.”
