World Cup 2026: Top scorers as Round of 16 fixtures begin

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, remains the leading top scorer at the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament as the competition enters the Round of 16 stage.

Messi has seven goals to his name at the World Cup after scoring a goal in Argentina’s 3-2 win against Cape Verde in the Round of 32.

The Inter Miami forward is one goal ahead of France’s Kylian Mbappe, who has six goals.

Behind Messi and Mbappe are Norway’s Erling Haaland and England’s Harry Kane.

Messi will now hope to lead Argentina to victory when they face Egypt in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

World Cup top scorers as the Round of 16 fixtures begin on Saturday, where co-host nation Canada will take on Morocco:

7 goals – Lionel Messi

6 goals – Kylian Mbappe

5 goals – Erling Haaland and Harry Kane

4 goals – Vinicius Junior,  Ousmane Dembele, Mikel Oyarzabal and Ismaïla Sarr.
