AFCON: Our president knows we can beat Nigeria – Mozambique coach on huge offer to win Super Eagles

Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde has said that the cash offer the Mambas received from their President, Daniel Francisco Chapo, was simply because he knows they can beat the Super Eagles.

The Mambas will face Nigeria in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.

Prior to the game, Mozambique’s president made a huge monetary offer of about 500,000 meticais to every player and member of the coaching staff if they beat the Super Eagles and advance to the quarterfinals.

When asked whether the announcement brings pressure or motivation ahead of the game, Conde told his pre-match press conference: “Our president is a big football fan, and we are thankful for his support. He is happy to encourage us, and he believes we can win the game.

“That’s why he made this promise, to inspire us to play with all our heart and to understand how important this mission is.”

Conde also stressed the pride of representing Mozambique, saying, “We are here for our country.”

Nigeria reached the knockout stage by beating all the Group C teams, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
