As another Women’s Premier League (WPL) season approaches its climax, another shot at winning the title awaits Delhi Capitals. Meg Lanning & Co. haven’t yet experienced the glee of hoisting the trophy, but by topping the table in each of the three seasons to claim a direct berth in the final, they have set a benchmark for consistency.

What has shaped this run of stability and success?

“I just think every player in this team is so professional and just knows what they’re doing. Every player adds so much value to this team,” DC vice-captain Jemimah Rodrigues said during a virtual media interaction on Thursday (March 13, 2025). “And when everyone comes together, it just works as one unit. This year wasn’t the easiest for us. But I think out of all the three seasons, I’m most proud of this year because we found a way to pick ourselves up and still be consistent and still be that DC team that everyone knows about.”

As a result of finishing first at the end of the league stage, Capitals will be going into Saturday’s final after an eight-day break without having played a game at the Brabourne Stadium. Asked whether the lack of game time in Mumbai could be a drawback, the 24-year-old was quick to disagree.

“The thing is that everyone in our team is pretty familiar with the conditions and pitches,” she noted. “We’ve been having good practice sessions on these off days. And honestly, after all the other pitches, Mumbai is like a batter’s dream. You enjoy batting here. The outfield’s fast. Time it in the gap, it’s a four. So, we are really looking forward to it and so are our bowlers. I mean, they’ve come up with their plans.”

In recognition of Lanning’s sustained contribution as captain, Jemimah added: “The thing I love about Meg, and this is something that I would like to add in myself, is that she’s calm but aggressive at the same time. And as a leader, that’s a very, very crucial quality to have.”
