Ruben Amorim 'puts a stop' to Man United team leaks after two decisions at Old Trafford

by · Manchester Evening News

Ruben Amorim has reportedly played a key role in halting the leaks of Manchester United's team news after he brought the issue to light in a public forum, and the club took similar steps.

Prior to United's unexpected victory over Manchester City on derby day last year, the accurate leak of the Red Devils' starting lineup had circulated on social media, sparking concerns about internal confidentiality breaches.

Following Erik ten Hag's departure last November, Amorim, who stepped into his new role, addressed the leak during his post-match press conference, seeking to mitigate any fallout.

According to The Daily Mail, the approach of airing the matter publicly appears to have been effective, with reports suggesting that such leaks have ceased since Amorim's comments and the club's echoing stance.

Fan reaction has also been cited as a deterrent. Social media accounts that were previously known for revealing team selections have become inactive, potentially due to disapproval from other fans, reports the Mirror.

Amorim tackled the topic of leaks head-on in December, saying: "I know that story, I don't know, I think it's impossible to fix nowadays because you have a lot of people in the club, the players talk with agents.

"You can talk with friends, so it's hard to know. It's not a good thing but let's move on and go to the next one and see if they find the next starting XI."

It is understood that Manchester United believe a network of people were behind the leaks, with club sources branding speculation that Alejandro Garnacho and his brother, Roberto, were behind the leaks as "rubbish". Despite reports claiming that Amad was questioned, he has not leaked any team news.

Amorim will hope to move on from the team leaks and put the situation behind them as he continues to try to steer the club in the right direction. Not least because he has other pressing matters to address, including the futures of some of his key stars.

Speculation about Marcus Rashford's future continues to be a big talking point with rumoured interest from AC Milan, while Kobbie Mainoo's future has been brought into question, having been left unhappy with the initial terms offered by United for a new contract.

Prior to United's promising 2-2 stalemate with Liverpool, the manager shared insights on the challenges suffusing Old Trafford, ones that could deepen with high-profile player exits.

"It's a really tough moment for everybody," said the United boss. "And I think the players are losing everything, the small things that we try to work on in training, after one goal, they lose everything because they don't have the base, we don't have time to build the base to cope with the difficult moments. So it's really hard in this moment."
