Man City player ratings vs Aston Villa with six 4/10s and one 7/10 in limp defeat
by Simon Bajkowski · Manchester Evening NewsManchester City were beaten again as Aston Villa made it nine losses in the last 12 games for the Premier League champions.
Pep Guardiola saw the Blues nearly concede in the first minute and a 1-0 deficit at half-time was made worse by John Stones being taken off. Former City youngster Morgan Rogers made it 2-0 in the second half to complete a miserable afternoon for City as their crisis shows no sign of ending despite a Phil Foden consolation in injury time.
Defeat sees Villa leapfrog them into fifth, and results elsewhere could push City further down the tablee. Here is how the players rated.
Ortega: Made more than one outstanding save to stop a grim performance and defeat turning into a rout. 7
Lewis: Looked subdued as he tried to stop City's bleeding, first from the right and then on the left. Lost too many battles. 4
Stones: Stepped out for the first goal after nearly causing a goal in the first minute. Came off at half-time with what must be another injury. 4
Akanji: The body was willing as he returned from injury but he seemed a second short of sharpness, which proved costly at times. 4
Gvardiol: He did at least offer something going forward yet as a result it meant the left side was free for Villa to charge down at will. 4
Kovacic: Has his limitations but did at least try and link defence and attack, recycling possession wherever he could. 5
Gundogan: Another non-event of a game. His biggest contributions were winning free-kicks that led to nothing. 4
Foden: Had a few shots at Martinez that were never in any danger of going in, but struggled to link with teammates. Consolation goal. 5
Silva: Outsmarted and outfought by Villa players with no impact on the right side to cause any problems. 4
Grealish: Booed from the off but the only member of City's attack that looked like they wanted to do something positive. 6
Haaland: Got no service again. Tried to be found but a losing battle as City created nothing. 5
