A dejected Phil Foden after Arsenal score in their thrashing of Manchester City

Man City player ratings vs Arsenal with three 4/10s despite Erling Haaland goal

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester City were humbled at the Emirates as Arsenal thrashed the Premier League champions 5-1.

Pep Guardiola's side got off to the worst possible start when Manu Akanji was dispossessed in front of goal and Martin Odegaard fired home inside two minutes. It should have been worse but City rallied and got themselves level when Erling Haaland headed home ten minutes into the second half.

However, City instantly fell away as Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri all scored to give a sobering reality check to the Blues. Here are the player ratings from the game.

Ortega: Never looked comfortable playing out from the back and played Kovacic into trouble. One good stop at 3-1. 4

Nunes: It looked like Foden stopped passing to him after he ended one too many City attacks. Still a fish out of water. 5

Stones: Not great for the first goal, saw the second deflect in off him and was beaten for the third and fourth. 4

Akanji: Unacceptably bad for the first goal, and had a few more shaky moments. 4

Gvardiol: Took a terrific save from Raya to keep him off the scoresheet and Arsenal's problems did not come down his side. 6

Kovacic: Epitomises a team that is always on the brink of losing possession. Gave it away cheaply for the fourth. 5

Silva: He was most effective at needling Arsenal players, but the midfield fell apart in the second half. 5

Foden: Good for the City equaliser then inexplicably slapped the ball straight to Partey for Arsenal's second. 5

Marmoush: A few lively moments but wasn't able to influence the game. 5

Savinho: Had to pick his moments but put in a superb ball to Haaland for the equaliser. 6

Haaland: Again, didn't see much of the ball but his goal momentarily silenced a fanbase obsessed with him. 6
