Tyson Fury confirms what’s next for the Gypsy King after Oleksandr Usyk ‘Christmas gift’

Tyson Fury has confirmed that he is going to take some time away from the ring before deciding what is next following defeat against Oleksnadr Usyk on Saturday night.

The Gypsy King was looking for revenge in the rematch between the two, following his loss to the same fighter just seven months ago. However, with the fight going the full length, it came down to the judges’ scorecards.

The unanimous decision saw Usyk awarded the victory. It’s a decision that Fury have labelled as a ‘Christmas gift’ to his opponent just a few days before Christmas Day.

“There’s no doubt in my mind I won the fight, that’s it, we can’t cry over it,” he said in his post-match press conference. “We didn’t feel no spirit, we felt a bit of Christmas spirit in there and I think he got a little Christmas gift from them judges.

“It is what it is, I’m not going to cry over spilt milk, it’s happened now. I know boxing, I’ve been in it all my life, you can’t change a decision but you always feel a little bit hard done by, not a little bit, a lot. But when you don’t get the knockout this is what happens, you can’t guarantee a win, in that fight there, he never hurt me once, I've got a couple of flesh wounds, they’ll be gone in two or three days.

“Not a mark on me, but listen, it is what it is, I know what’s happened, I’ll go home, there’s not much else I can say.”

The defeat led to questions over what is next for Fury, with much talk over a possible fight with Antony Joshua. But Fury has said he’s going to take his time over any decision.

“What’s next for me? I’m going home and having some time off, for sure,” he said.

When asked if he’s going to be seen fighting again, he answered with: “You might do, you might not do, who knows, we’ll talk about that next year.”
