Final Europa League matchday predicted as Manchester United discover European fate

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United have the chance to book their place in the Europa League knockout stages when they travel to Romania to take on FCSB.

A late winner from Bruno Fernandes secured a 2-1 win for United against Rangers in their last Europa League outing, leaving Ruben Amorim's side fourth in the league phase table on 15 points. A draw could be enough to claim their spot in the knockout stages, but a win would confirm it.

United fans will also be keeping an eye on other results from the final batch of league phase games to see who Amorim's side could face in the knockout stages should they qualify. So, can United secure their Europa League Round of 16 spot later today? Let's take a look...

We simulated FCSB vs Man United to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the Romanian side could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Tarnovanu; Cretu, Ngezana, Dawa, Radunovic; Sut, Edjouma; Stefanescu, Tanase, Miculescu; Birligea.

We predict that United could line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Bayindir; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez; Amad, Ugarte, Mainoo, Mazraoui; Fernandes, Garnacho; Zirkzee.

United got off to the perfect start in Romania, with a mix-up between the defender and goalkeeper allowing Alejandro Garnacho to swoop in and fire into an empty net just seven minutes in. United dominated the rest of the half as they searched for a second, and just moments after the restart Amorim's side doubled their lead.

Some fantastic footwork on the right saw Amad weave his way towards the box before drilling a cross into the box, and after Joshua Zirkzee's shot was saved, Kobbie Mainoo was quickest to pounce and tap the rebound home to make it 2-0.

FCSB had the chance to pull a goal back in the 88th minute when Daniel Birligea burst through one-on-one with Altay Bayindir, but after rounding the 'keeper, Leny Yoro made an unbelievable recovery challenge to block the shot. United managed to hold on to the lead despite a few late chances for the hosts, picking up the three points on the road.

EA FC 25 predicted final score: FCSB 0-2 Man United

The victory for United ensured that Amorim's side automatically qualified for the Europa League Round of 16, meaning they avoided two extra games in the play-off round. We also simulated every other result from the final Europa League league phase gameweek to predict how the final table would look, and who United could face.

These were the results:

  • Rangers 3-2 Union St. Gilloise
  • Roma 2-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Slavia Praha 1-0 Malmo
  • Tottenham 5-1 Elfsborg
  • Ajax 1-2 Galatasaray
  • Maccabi Tel Aviv 0-2 Porto
  • Ferencvaros 2-0 AZ
  • Braga 1-3 Lazio
  • Real Sociedad 2-1 PAOK
  • Olympiacos 4-3 Qarabag
  • Lyon 3-0 Ludogorets
  • Dynamo Kyiv 1-1 RFS
  • Midtjylland 1-2 Fenerbache
  • Twente 0-0 Besiktas
  • Athletic Bilbao 2-0 Viktoria Plzen
  • Anderlecht 2-1 Hoffenheim
  • Nice 4-0 Bodo/Glimt

Based on these results, United ended the league phase in third, meaning they would meet one of the teams that finished 13th, 14th, 19th or 20th in the Round of 16. From the simulation, United would face either Bodo/Glimt, Ferencvaros, AZ, or Ajax in the Round of 16.
