Harry Maguire agrees with Ruben Amorim's honest Man United verdict after 'tough' start

Manchester United's Harry Maguire has agreed with Ruben Amorim's comment that the squad was "overthinking" during their underwhelming 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Despite anticipation for a strong start under the new management at Portman Road, with Marcus Rashford scoring within 80 seconds, the team struggled to hit their stride and Omari Hutchinson equalised just before half-time. Following the game, Amorim reflected: "My players were thinking too much in the game. We had just two days together, we need more."

Maguire, who missed the match due to a foot injury recovery, concurred with his coach, suggesting an adjustment period is needed as players switch from Erik ten Hag's methods. "When you come from one style to another style, like the manager said in his interview after, I think people on the pitch are thinking too much where they want to be," he noted.

"At the end of the day, it's a football match. Go and be better than your opponent and go and win the football match. Within that, play with his principles.

"I think we overthought the game against Ipswich. I think that's natural because the boys want to play the way the manager wants to play. I think we've got to let it adapt with fluent rather than forcing it."

Noussair Mazraoui has spoken out in support of the team's approach under the new management despite failing to secure a win against Ipswich. Mazraoui was impressed with the leadership and communication skills on display, noting: "My first impressions are really good. His social skills are really good and on point. Everyone understands what he says directly."

After drawing with Ipswich and climbing to 12th place, coach Amorim has set his sights on future improvement, emphasizing the need for better game control: "They (Ipswich) left us one against one many times and we have to use those moments," adding, "It was a tough match and we lost some balls without pressure."

Driving home the need for seamless execution of new strategies, Amorim stated, "When you start like we did, you have to control the ball. We cannot do it at the moment but the players really, really tried. We have to address the new ideas now and try and be better for the next game."
