Erling Haaland offer, Kevin De Bruyne agreement and Rodri talks in Man City end of season plan
by Jack Flintham · Manchester Evening NewsManchester City are under no illusions that this season has not been at all good enough with their campaign now solely resting on qualifying for next year's Champions League - and winning the FA Cup.
It was no surprise that City were knocked out of the elite European competition this week following their collapse at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg. Bernardo Silva said before the second leg that the Premier League was out of reach and few can disagree with that assessment, while defeat to Real Madrid compounded their misery.
However, so long as Champions League football can be secured for next season, there is hope of a revival in the summer transfer window. The Manchester Evening News has had a go at predicting what the plan will be for City come the end of the season.
Haaland offer
The rather eye-catching contract offered to Erling Haaland, which was subsequently signed, was a message to the rest of the Premier League that the Norwegian was going to be the focal point of City's squad moving forward. Such a deal would indicate that the Blues will be looking to build their team around the goal-getter and, as such, he could be consulted on who they should be looking to sign.
Guardiola will have a new director of football to work with from this summer - in the form of Hugo Viana - and perhaps the unconventional decision to consult with Haaland on who he thinks could benefit him, may be taken. Whether Haaland would take on that responsibility considering how it ended badly for Kylian Mbappe and PSG is unclear, but an informal offer to add a suggestion (or two) to the recruitment process may not go amiss.
De Bruyne agreement
This season has not been the one that Kevin De Bruyne had been hoping for and - with his contract expiring this summer - it could well be his swansong. At 33, his £400,000-a-week contract is unlikely to be matched by City in any negotiations, so the truth of the matter is that he would either have to agree a pay cut or move on.

An agreement on his departure seems to be the most likely outcome, especially when lucrative options in Saudi Arabia are ready to match those figures to bring a player of his star power to the Middle East - so it could be an option. Hopefully, between now and the end of the season, De Bruyne can end his time in Manchester on a high.
Rodri talks
With De Bruyne likely to be taken off City's wage bill, there is scope to suggest that talks should commence with Rodri about extending his contract and improving his salary. Without the Ballon d'Or winner, the Blues have been a shadow of themselves which has only strengthened the Spaniard's negotiating position.
Currently, it is thought that Rodri earns less than the returning Ilkay Gundogan, John Stones and £100million man, Jack Grealish. Arguably, the midfielder is worth close to what Haaland is earning and surely some of that £400,000-a-week saved on De Bruyne should, probably, be redistributed to his wage.
