Man United get final Mathys Tel transfer response as second Aston Villa deal emerges

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United could be set for a busy end to the January transfer window as deadline day finally arrives.

United have completed one new signing during the window, with Patrick Dorgu arriving from Lecce on a long-term deal. It remains to be seen if Dorgu will be joined by any further new signings, with rumours swirling suggesting that may be the case.

In terms of outgoings, Marcus Rashford has completed a loan move to Aston Villa for the rest of the season. United agreed a deal with Villa for Rashford to move to the Midlands club for the remainder of the campaign, which includes the option to buy in the summer.

Here, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at some of the latest United transfer news and gossip that has generated headlines over the last 24 hours.

An update has emerged on United's interest in signing Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel. The France Under-21 international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also credited with an interest.

According to The Athletic, it is "unlikely" that Tel will join United on loan before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening. It has been reported that United are "cool" over the prospect of not completing any further signings before the transfer deadline.

The report claims that United are being mindful of the finances involved in a potential deal to sign Tel. It remains to be seen if the striker will leave Bayern before the transfer window closes.

Elsewhere, United are reportedly interested in signing Villa forward Leon Bailey before the deadline. The Athletic are reporting United have discussed the possibility of trying to sign Bailey before the transfer window closes.

It has been claimed that United are yet to approach Villa over a deal to sign Bailey, who has scored one goal in 29 appearances this season. The report goes on to say that United may have an interest in signing Bailey if a loan move becomes a possibility.
