Manchester United are among the worst-hit Premier League clubs for injuries as top-flight football returns following the international break.

Erik ten Hag will be looking for a response after going into the October interval languishing in mid-table. The Dutchman's side are winless in the league since September 14, when they beat Southampton 3-0, since then they have lost one in three with pressure mounting on the former Ajax head coach.

Brentford are the visitors to Old Trafford on Saturday (3pm kick-off) with United enjoying good form against their London opponents at the Theatre of Dreams. Thomas Frank has witnessed his Bees suffer defeat in their last three trips to Greater Manchester, most recently slipping to a late defeat thanks to Scott McTominay's brace in stoppage-time to overturn a one-goal deficit.

United's internationals are all beginning to return to the North West ahead of Saturday's encounter. There was positive news on the injury front after Noussair Mazraoui, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad all featured in first-team training after sitting out of their respective international fixtures.

All three trained at Carrington on Thursday, while Manuel Ugarte was involved but in the capacity of a recovery session after his gruelling run out for Uruguay in their World Cup qualifiers.

Tyrell Malacia's long-awaited return took a step forward as well. The Dutchman, who last played against Fulham on the final day of the 2022–23 season, participated in the first part of first-team training as part of his rehabilitation.

There are as many as four others to be ruled out, with Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo set to miss Brentford's visit. The pair picked up muscle injuries during the draw with Aston Villa on the eve of the break and are expected to be out for a few weeks. Mainoo was forced to withdraw from Lee Carsley's England side.

Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are also continuing their bid for a comeback after suffering a knock and a muscle injury, respectively. Summer signing Leny Yoro will continue to build up to his first Premier League appearance for the club after picking up a foot injury in pre-season.
