Ruben Amorim breaks silence on Manchester United after fresh Sporting Lisbon update

by · Manchester Evening News

Ruben Amorim has revealed his appointment at Manchester United could be finalised by Friday night.

The Manchester Evening News revealed on Wednesday that United had agreed a fee for Amorim and his appointment is expected to be officially confirmed by the club imminently.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been placed in charge on an interim basis and oversaw United's 5-2 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup. Amorim's first game in charge is expected to be against Ipswich Town on November 24 and Van Nistelrooy will manage the team until then.

Amorim didn't give much away when speaking at a Sporting press conference at the beginning of the week and some English journalists attended his press conference again on Thursday.

Sporting will play Estrela da Amadora at home on Friday and instead of shirking his media duties, he spoke to the press and took some questions on his future.

"It's a negotiation between two clubs, it's never easy," said Amorim about United. "Even with the clauses, it's never easy, they have to talk, and we will have clarification after the game, it will be very clear. So it's one more day after the game tomorrow, we will have a decision made."

Translated from Portuguese, Amorim also said: "I'll leave it until the end of the game, I'll talk about these issues and everything will be clearer. Talking now is just a destabilisation for the squad."

Amorim took just one question from an English journalist but as he stepped up to leave the press conference, he was asked what he liked about the Premier League and said: "Everything."

The 39-year-old is considered a good communicator - he speaks fluent English - and the impression is he's handled himself admirably this week amid questions on his future.

United are now working on a fee to appoint Amorim's coaches at Old Trafford and Carlos Fernandes, 29, and Adelio Candido, 28, are expected to follow him to Manchester from Sporting.

Amorim has previously said if he becomes Bobby Robson then Fernandes is 'his Jose Mourinho'.
