Man United transfer rumours assessed – Antoine Semenyo battle and Elliot Anderson 'truth'

by · Manchester Evening News

Antoine Semenyo

The Athletic's David Ornstein suggests United are about to lose the race to sign Antoine Semenyo. They explain interest from Old Trafford chiefs dating back to the summer. Since then, various big Premier League rivals such as Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur have all expressed interest but have not got very far. But neither have United, it seems, as cross-city rivals Manchester City are "expected to take steps in the coming days" to formalise the player's move to the Etihad Stadium from Bournemouth. They have until January 10 to strike a deal using Semenyo's £65m release clause.

Elliot Anderson

The Athletic's Mark Critchley and Laurie Whitwell write that Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is now United's top midfield transfer target moving forwards. It looks extremely unlikely he would be allowed to move this winter, meaning a summer saga with competitors for the 23-year-old's signature is "bound" to unfold. Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Brighton's Carlos Baleba also remain on the list of potential targets.

Conor Gallagher

United remain in close contact over the potential signing of Conor Gallagher, Fabrizio Romano has stated on his YouTube channel, in a situation that could require patience. That is because he explains Atletico Madrid will only consider the English midfielder's permanent sale this January, at a fee around €30m (£26.2m), as things stand. But the longer it drags on, the La Liga club's stance may change and the possibility of a loan deal may open towards the end of the January window.
