Ruben Amorim tasted defeat, yet again, as Man Utd boss

Ruben Amorim drops Man Utd bombshell as he casts doubt on his future at club

Ruben Amorim has cast doubt over his future at Manchester United as he shouldered the blame for their continued decline - suggesting that he should possibly vacate his post if their struggles continue

Ruben Amorim has confessed that Manchester United's growing struggles are his fault - and he could consider handing over the reigns if he cannot change the team's direction of travel.

United will post their worst ever Premier League finish this season with West Ham the latest side to win at Old Trafford. Amorim was appointed in November to replace Erik ten Hag, but hasn't enjoyed any new manager bounce with the team going backwards.

Amorim was hired off the back of his success at Sporting Lisbon, where he was a title winner, but he has struggled to find a winning formula in Manchester. The team are in the midst of a seven match winless run - with five of those being defeats.

Their home record has made for grim reading with Amorim, who bought his unique 3-4-3 system with him, unable to get his players to operate as he hoped. However he's maintained that any issues are up to him - not his players - and he understands he must fix their crisis as soon as possible.

He said: "It's not the players' fault. It's my fault, I'm responsible. If we cannot change that really fast, we should give our place to different persons".

Amorim added: "I feel how a manager of Manchester United is supposed to feel in that position - embarrassed. It’s hard to accept. We need to be more aggressive, and we need to feel that it is the end of the world when we are not winning a game. Especially when we are not winning.

"So it's a big problem that we have here at the club. It's a decisive moment in the history of the club. We need to address that. It's a big problem because it's mentally. We are not scared of losing a game as Manchester United. We don't have that fear anymore and that is the most dangerous thing that a big club can have."

Amorim has not been shy in speaking his mind since being appointed in Manchester. After a defeat several months ago he admitted that he was leading "maybe the worst Manchester United team in history" such was their poor run of form.

The Portuguese coach, who was highly-rated before coming to the Premier League, had requested to join at the end of the season, but was told he had to arrive mid-season or miss out on the job all together.

The Red Devils languish in 16th place

Amorim’s side went into Sunday’s game buoyed by securing their place in the make-or-break Bilbao showpiece against Tottenham with Thursday’s 4-1 victory against Athletic Bilbao, completing an impressive 7-1 semi-final triumph.

But United have failed to carry their European form onto the domestic front, with their worst-ever Premier League season continuing as Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen sealed West Ham a memorable 2-0 victory on the road.

The East Londoners ended an eight-game winless run by securing their first league victory at Old Trafford since Carlos Tevez struck 18 years ago.
