Alan Shearer fires Liverpool warning over Mohamed Salah contract - 'I know one thing'

Alan Shearer has warned Liverpool will struggle to replace Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian leaves this summer.

Salah is no closer to agreeing a new contract at Anfield after repeatedly claiming he was likely to leave the club at the end of the season following eight years with the Merseyside outfit.

The 32-year-old is having an incredible season in front of goal, with the forward adding his 21st of the season in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Salah has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer but pundit Shearer is hopeful he will prolong his stay at Liverpool.

Speaking on Amazon commentary duty, he said: "I really hope he stays because he's such a wonderful player. I love watching him every week and I'm pretty sure the fans do here too.

"Because of his training regime and because he keeps himself so fit there's plenty of time he's got left. There's no doubt he can score goals in the next three or four years."

Shearer fired a warning to Liverpool, telling the Reds they will struggle to replace Salah if they cannot nail him down to a new deal before the end of the season.

He added: "I don't know what the issues are, why he hasn't signed, or what he may or may not want, but I know one thing, if he has to leave they're not going to get in anyone as good as him for a while."

While Salah has continually suggested an exit is on the cards this summer, he did give Liverpool some hope he could sign a new deal after scoring his 50th European goal for the Reds against Lille. When asked is he would score another 50, he replied: "I'm not sure about that, but I'll give it my best."

Salah is enjoying his best season in a Liverpool shirt to date, but despite his consistency in front of goal pundit Troy Deeney suspects "something is up" with the club's talisman.

Speaking after Liverpool's late 2-0 win over Brentford last week, he told talkSPORT: "Notably, Salah is the first one off the pitch. Something's up with that fella today. Whether it's something with Saudi, whether there's a move, but he's not been at the races today. Him going down the tunnel first, even though 95 per cent of the team is over there celebrating, says a lot to me."
