Ruben Amorim steps up Viktor Gyokeres chase as Man Utd scout three players
Ruben Amorim wants to reunite with Viktor Gyokeres at Manchester United, but the Portuguese coach would also like to snare two other top players from Sporting Lisbon
by Dan Marsh · The MirrorManchester United have scouts in attendance to watch Viktor Gyokeres play Arsenal in the Champions League - and two of the striker's Sporting Lisbon team-mates.
Gyokeres has evolved into one of Europe's most prolific strikers since joining Sporting in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer. And the Sweden international is known to have several high-profile suitors in the Premier League.
Arsenal - who will see Gyokeres firsthand on Tuesday night - are long-term admirers but United have also emerged as a potential destination for the striker after they poached his former boss, Ruben Amorim, from Sporting.
Amorim has designs on reuniting with Gyokeres and two more Sporting players next summer if United can deliver the necessary transfer funds.
As outlined by The Mail, Gyokeres is on the radar and signing another striker has been identified as the club's transfer priority. Teenage prodigy Geovany Quenda is also of interest, though, as is Pedro Goncalves.
The trio are all likely to play a significant role against Arsenal on Tuesday night with United scouts watching on. And they'll be joined by talent spotters from Manchester City, who are also keeping tabs on Gyokeres' situation.
Amorim's former Sporting ally, Hugo Viana, has already been confirmed as City's next director of football and it's said he is 'likely' to lead a rival bid for Gyokeres next summer, with United promising not to make a move for any of Sporting's talent in January.

Gyokeres has been in red-hot form for Sporting this term, notching 24 goals in just 19 matches for the Portuguese champions.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refused to comment on Gyokeres ahead of the Gunners' meeting with Sporting following reports linking him with the club.
But goalkeeper David Raya broke rank to brand the former Coventry City man as a top player. He said: "We know his strengths, how he runs a lot in behind and scores a lot in one-v-one and he is a top player in form.
"We are going to try and keep him very, very quiet. Don't give him any chances. We have to step up defensively. Hopefully we can do a great job and keep a clean sheet."
