Arsenal news: Gunners bosses consider radical change as Ben White makes final decision

Arsenal are back in action this weekend as they take on London rivals Chelsea this weekend at the Emirates Stadium and it comes amid early discussion for an expansion to the Gunners’ current home

by · The Mirror

Arsenal are still fighting on two fronts as the 2024/25 season enters its final stage.

The Gunners are still in the fight for the Premier League title, albeit their hopes are now fleeting with Liverpool having a 17-point lead. But Arsenal could potentially cut that considerably before the Reds take to the pitch in the league once more.

Away from the Premier League, Arsenal are also still in the Champions League following their dominant win against PSV. But they’ve got a difficult task ahead with a quarter-final to come against Real Madrid.

But before that, they have this weekend’s clash with Chelsea to consider. Take a look at all of the standout Arsenal headlines ahead of that game:

Arsenal bosses consider expansion

Arsenal could become the latest Premier League side to expand their stadium with early discussions being held. According to reports, club chiefs are considering a number of options that would see the capacity of the Emirates increased.

The cost and length of any expansion project are the main factors being considered, while the impact on the local area would be a major consideration. Islington Council would likely have to grant approval to any project, while Transport for London would also have a major say.

Arsenal are following in the footsteps of a few current Premier League rivals. Manchester United and Newcastle have both recently unveiled plans for lucrative new stadiums.

White makes England call

Ben White has made himself AVAILABLE for England despite not being named in Thomas Tuchel’s first squad. The defender has not featured for the Three Lions since leaving the World Cup in Qatar for personal reasons.

Explaining White’s stance, the new England boss said: “He loves to be back in the squad but I think it is too early for him. I just think it's a bit too early given the seriousness of the injury he had. I'm delighted he's back, he's back now in training. We were monitoring the process and huge compliments to the medical and performance department of the FA.

“And thanks to everyone at Arsenal to let us monitor closely so we are on it, speaking to Ben that we are delighted that he is back on the bench. He had a Champions League match now in the second leg and I think now it's just the question about getting more minutes, more rhythm and then he has every chance to be back. He wants to be back, he’s glad to be back.”

Maresca makes Arsenal claim

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has admitted the gap between the two clubs is considerable ahead of this weekend’s game. “The gap? It's quite big,” Maresca said.

“The reason why is because they are working with the same manager for five years, so the difference is quite important. With the same players, they have already played some important games.

“Our target, our duty, is to close that gap between us and them. At this moment, the table says the difference is six points, so we are quite close, but we still have nine (10) games to go.”
